We can be calm and relaxed amongst adversity and confusion. In our daily living, we become steady, confident, firm but flexible, intense but light, focused while flowing, disciplined yet spontaneous. The true human qualities of determination, forgiveness, compassion, respect, honour, and integrity grow inside us.

About Us

Chris Leigh-Smith, (BEd, MEd), is a former Vice Principal, science and physical education teacher who taught in high needs schools where intimidation tactics and violence, both verbal and physical, were normal behaviors. Much of his time in school was spent coaching and counseling children and their parents with life skills and tools that created empowerment for individuals and families. Chris considers that these students became his greatest teachers. Chris’s philosophy has emerged from their growth together.

In 1992 Chris started his own school, The Tao of Peace Martial Arts and Life Skills, which is directed purposely toward empowering children and adults. The curriculum is about respect, oneness, truth, communication skills, and harmony. Although he teaches martial arts, his focus is on sharing how to live with confidence and compassion. When we heal the fear within ourselves, we allow the true potential of loving behavior to shine.
